Removing programs from Startup

I have just newly installed Win2K. Many of the programs I use automatically
put icons in the start menu (the one just below the clock). With Win 98, you
clicked Start, Run, typed in msconfig, enter. Then you chose start menu
items and unchecked unnecessary programs. How do you do this in W2k?

Right click on the icon for the program, and see if there's
a configuration menu, and then see if you can choose to
start the program at startup in that menu.

These programs show up everytime I start Windows. Only one of them do I
need. The others just put their icons there as part of their installation.
I understand they will slow down the computer.
