Removing Programs from MSCONFIG Start Tab

How do you remove items from the Start tab under MSCONFIG
and still have XP start in normal mode. These are not
inactive programs but programs that I do not want
starting when the computer boots up.

TIA

Greetings,

You just have to untick the desired programs.

Thanks and best of luck!

JPB,

1. Disable the option within those programs.
2. Uncheck the items in MSCONFIG

To remove the unchecked entries, download this script:

First look for an option within the program itself, if you recognize it, to
stop it starting at startup

Failing that.....

Start > Run > msconfig > Startup
Press CTRL + "+" ( the one on the keypad) while viewing the start tab to see
all of the column entries

For entries in the Startup folder
Start > All Programs > Startup > Right-click entry and choose delete

If they start up from the registry then.....

Set a Restore Point if you're not too confident about editing the registry

Start > Run > Regedit
Navigate to the key in question from the info given in msconfig
Right-click it and choose delete (choose Export first to make a backup if
you like)

Check for an option to not having the icon load in the System Tray via the
program(s) in question.

Other options for removal:

Go to Start/Run and type in: msconfig. Go to the Startup Tab and uncheck
accordingly. Then run this script to remove the disabled items from the
registry.

Or...remove the runkeys from here: Start/Run/Regedit
