Removing or deleting hyperlink recent files.

How do I delete Recent Files in the Insert Hyperlink (do Ctrl-K) on a
highlighted word?

Hi Neil

The list is controlled by Internet Explorer. So, in Internet Explorer, Tools

Internet Options. On the General tab, click "Clear History".

i did do that...yet some links still remain? is it a corruption somewhere?
how do i remove the rest..?? is it in regedit?

That didnt work...any other suggestions....

Try going under your c drive under windows and delete your internet
temparary files. Make sure you delete all files using the delete and
shift key at the same time.

Shortcuts that appear in 'Browsed Pages' can come from your Recent Explorer
<drive>\Documents and Settings\[your UserID]\Recent
and your Internet Explorer History
<drive>\Documents and Settings\[your UserID]\Local Settings\History
folders

sorrry...the phantom browsed pages still showing up....however when i create
a new user....go to hyperlink in word or excel...those phantom browsed pages
are gone....nothing seems to get rid of them in the original user...should i
delete the user all together...and start a new user?? what are the pros and
cons of doing that...and what will i use...

Hi Evan,

Those are generally the two locations although you
may also have some under the 'all users' folders.
Try using Start=>Search to look for one of the
'mystery' shortcuts and see if it is a .url or .lnk
file on the hard drive.

This thread is quite frustrating. The question is simple and straightforward:
How does one delete the history of browsed web pages that appears when one
uses the hyperlink utility in word? None of the answers provided so far are
even remotely helpful. There has to be an obvious and simple way to delete
these pages. I hope that MS tech support can address this question directly.
And when you do, please re-read the question carefully and provide an answer
that is on-point. That would be most appreciated. Thank you.

I tried everything to delete those browsed internet pages, and found a user
in Google groups who recommended downloading a shareware product called
PurgeIE (www.purgeie.com).

You can download a trial version and once downloaded you can click on
"protect" to delete cookies, cache and visited sites. When you restart MS
Word, and go to "insert hyperlink" you will see that the browsed pages are
gone!!!
