removing old java files

D

Delli

hi, i've just updated sun java, and i'm not sure how to remove old
un-needed java installations. they seem to install in side-by-side folder
with the version number on the folder, ie, < jre1.5.0_09 >.

should I just delete the older folder, or do an uninstall via control panel?
would un-installing old ones affect the newest version?

thanks for any help.

Uninstall via the add/remove in control panel.
Shouldn't affect the latest one. If there was a problem, you would simply reinstall the
latest one.
That's what I do.

First, make sure JRE 1.6.0_03 is installed:
http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp (use IE to reach this page; close
all IE windows before installing the "Windows-Offline Install" file you
download).

Now uninstall any /other/ (earlier) versions via Add/Remove Programs. If
the subfolder(s) for the now-uninstalled version(s) persist in C:\Program
Files\Java <=this folder, Delete it. Do NOT delete the subfolder for
v1.6.0_03.
