Question -

Recently my Quick Launch toolbar has grown to the point where it is
overtaking my taskbar. I am having problems with both sides of the
quick launch - right next to the start menu and on the opposite side
of the screen with the time/date. Is there a way I can remove some of
these icons.

Thanks for the help.

Quick Launch bar (left hand side)
Right Click the icon and select delete! (Which just deletes the shortcut)

For the taskbar (right hand side)
You need to go into the properties of whatever application has placed the
icon there and tell it not to place an icon on the taskbar.. eg for the
audio it will say "Show volume control on the taskbar" with a tick box

Right-click on the icon and click Delete.

You should be able to right click on the items in the
quick launch and select delete(quick launch by the way is
by default what is on the left side of the screen.)
Deleteing these items in no way affects the actual
program that it points to. If you want to know where
these are kept on your system in WinXP and Win2000 they
are in C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserID\Application
Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch. Also
check out the folder C:\Documents and Settings\All
Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick
Launch....as you see the icons from both folders.

The items on the right are in a space known as the system
tray and are a little more comlicated to remove. I would
be more concerned about these as they represent memory
resident applications wasting vital system resources. To
remove thes you need to try a few different things.

The first is to right click on the icon and see if it has
a settings, properties or options menu. Within one of
those menus you may find an option or checkbox where you
can prevent the program from starting when windows starts
(AOL Instant Messenger, Real Player and many other apps
have this ability.)

The next thing to try is to prevent the application from
loading at windows startup. Look in Start => Programs
=> StartUp foilder and remove anything you do not want.
It may also be that the application is executing from the
windows registry. However, I wont tell you how to fix
that as you can fry your system if you do something wrong
in the registry.

The next option is to idenetify the application
associated with the icon and uninstall it if it is not
needed.

At your own risk:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Same place in HKCU.

ALL ICONS FOR QLAUNCH IS STORED IN
?:\Documents and Settings\????\Application
Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

Have u tried to just click on them with right mousebutton
and choose delete?
