Using Windows Mail to access my subscription newsreader. When I highlight a
message, right-click, click on PROPERTIES, then click on MESSAGE SOURCE, on
some posts I see the originator's IP address while others do not show the IP
address.

Questions:

It appears that this is NOT the IP address of the originating computer, but,
of the originating ISP -- right? For example, when I trace the IP address
shown in my posts, it shows the location of my ISP, which is miles away from
me.

Is there any way to configure Windows Mail so the IP address is not shown on
outgoing posts?

You can see the full source with Ctrl+F3.

No, nothing can be configured in WinMail in so far.
Other "professional" newsreaders offer more features and more
customizing.

Such as . . . . ???

Thanks.

IP address locators can only get to within the general geographic area,
typically locating the ISP who assigned you that IP address.

When you post, whether your IP address is in the headers depends
on the policy in effect at the particular news server. For example,
this post of mine will reveal my IP address, but if I make the following
selection in Windows Mail:
Tools, Options, General, "Use newsgroup message rating features"
then the message is processed by a different Microsoft news server
which does not post the originator's IP address. I have complained
about this latter policy to Microsoft since my ability to help a user with
his mail problem often revolves around being able to tell who his ISP is.
