Removing Custom Links from Start Menu

S

srm

I have WXP SP2. Just purchased a Lenovo R60 IBM Thinkpad. They added
a link in the Start menu which I cannot remove. It is not listed in
TweakUI or when I go to Advance in the Customize Start Menu to change
what items to Show.

I looked at the policies but not sure what to run. I'm guessing I need
to update something in the registry (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software
\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion) but not sure what to update.

Any ideas on how to remove custom items from the Start menu?

Thank you

Shawn

Hi Shawn,

Right-click the New Start Menu and choose Properties
Click Start Menu tab, Customize, Advanced tab
In the Start Menu items list, uncheck "Manufacturer Link"
Click OK, and OK.

If the "Manufacturer Link" entry does not exist, you need to change the registry value "NoOEMLinkInstalled" to 0. The "NoOEMLinkInstalled" value is present in the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StartMenu\StartPanel\ShowOEMLink

More details are available at this link.

How to add or modify the OEM link on the Windows XP style start menu:
