Removing crashed replica server

Xavier

Hello,
I'm having a problem to remove a crashed replica server from the AD.

I installed exchange 2003 on a 2003 server machin, but as I discovered
that my raid controller messed up, I had to setup the whole system
again.

Now, my problem is the following one:
on my primary controller (w2k), I tried to remove the replica, but I'm
unable to do it, I tried a MS kb using ntfsutil to remove the replica,
and it's not showing anymore in list servers, but in the AD it's still
there.

The problem is that I want to name the exchange server with the same
name as it had before crash, but it's not possible. I did not try with
an other name, but i'll say it should work.

Any good idea?

Cheers
Xavier

P.S. I've 2 replicas (one 2000 and the crashed 2k3) and one main DC.

Hi,

Well there is a bit more to do to remove a domain controller from
metadata than just using the ntdsutil command.

How to remove data in Active Directory after an unsuccessful domain
controller demotion
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/216498/

You will also have to use ADSIedit to remove the old domain controller
from AD, if there are any DNS entries on the DNS server pointing to
this crashed DC, it will also have to be removed.
Verify within Sites and Services that the DC has been removed and
verify the changes replicate to all of the remaining domain controllers
in the environment.

I would also look over the following article in particular the part
where it mentions how to remove Exchange from Active Directory.

How to remove Exchange Server 2003 from your computer

Hope this helps.
