Removing Animations inconsistent?

I teach PowerPoint XP/2003 a couple times each month. it seems like I have
adding and removing animations all figured out and sometimes strange things
happen. Is this me or is it the program?
1) Sometimes I can easily remove animations in Slide Sorter View by
selecting "No Animations" and selecting the Apply to All Slides Button and
they are gone.
2) Other times it seems I have to refresh and go out of Slide Sorter and go
to Normal View for the Animation Star to be remove and then go back to Slide
Sorter View.
3) Other times it seems that I have to close and open the file for the
Animation Stars to go away.
4) Other times I need to select all the slides and them hit "Apply to all
Slides."
Has anyone else had this problem? It drives me up a wall when I am teaching
this and it appears to be inconsistent when removing animations. I ususally
say, "bug" and try the various options until the Animation Stars all cleared
off.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
thanks!

Hi,

In slide sorter view, what you would be removing is the slide transitions.
Apart from that, I haven't had this happen.

I was just going to post the same thing.

You can't actually remove animations from slide sorter view, so the issue
might lie in the confusion between animations and transitions.

You can apply animation SCHEMES in slide sorter view and remove animation
which I think is what is being done.

To remove all animation shemes select all the slides in slide sorter view
and click "No animations"
