I don't think this is OS, just Adobe problem.

Uninstalled Ver. 6.0.

Remaining were folders in C:\Documents and Settings

I tried to delete them since uninstall seemed sucessful, got error screen
"can't access, in use".

Regseeker cleaned out all Adobe entries.

Got same message.

Reboot, same message.

looked in Task Manager, it's not running. Process Explorer says the same.

How to kill the process?

It's just this kind of issue that makes me dislike later versions of
Acrobat. Ver, 3 runs as executable.

You could try unlocker:

http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/

It also leaves behind a large MSI file...

Look in your "Start folde" and delete the "Adobe Reader Speed Launch"
and also delete the Adobe download manager from the registry as it
also starts at system startup. Reboot the system and then the programs
folder and files.

Try in Safe Mode Mike.

Thanks to all.

Mike, that's a good addition to my list of things to do in this
situation.

I had left the computer for several hours, so then the folders deleted
normally. I would still like to find a better utility to show hidden
running processes, TA and Process Explorer didn't.

I have to remember that now, in W2K, I can start using those "unlock"
programs that didn't work in W98SE.

You`re in the 21st century now Mike <G>.

i'm confused ... usually my normal state... wouldn't upgradeing to 7.0 solve
problems, or is a space problem on h.d.? i know there are already other
converters and readers out there , but my confusion continues... new tothe
