Remove visible formatting

I must have accidentally his some key for now all composed emails in Outlook
2003 display formatting characters, i.e, the paragraph marker, dash line
between letters, etc. The formatting only appears when composing and not in
the transmitted email. How can these be removed from view?

Click the Pilchrow mark (¶) on the Standard toolbar of Word.
