remove/uninstall Windows Installer on Windows 2000

Hello,

Our install required Windows Installer engine 2.0. One of our customers is
trying to install our product (on Windows 2000), but get the message that
they need to upgrade to windows installer engine 2.0. They downloaded the
engine install, but when they try to install they get the message that the
specified service already exists.

I vaguely recall seeing something like this in a newsgroup or knowledge base
article, but I can no longer find any information. I thought it was
something like you cannot upgrade a certain version of the Windows Installer
engine (1.2 maybe?) to 2.0 on Windows 2000. I recall seeing instructions on
how to remove the Windows Installer engine from Windows 2000 so that it
could be reinstalled.

Could someone please point me to this information?

Thank you,
Merri
