Remove single XPPro liscense to install site liscence version

P

Paul

Hi i have a PC here at work with a single user liscensed
copy of XP Pro. We recently got a site liscence, so I
would like to use the single user liscense to one of my
home computers.

i do not want to uninstall or reinstall anything that
could mess up the hundreds of apps and data files on the
work machine. I just want the work machine to use a
liscense from the multi-liscense pack and free up the the
single user copy of XPPro for my computer at home.

Is there a Microsoft phone number I could call to tell me
how to easily do this?

If the "single user licensed copy of XP Pro" is an OEM license, then
it is non-transferable to another computer. If it's a "Retail Version",
then you'll have to perform a "Repair Install" using the new license
and the corresponding Windows XP CD.

Go to Start > Run and type: WINVER , and hit enter to read the
terms of the EULA currently on that computer.

your instructions were a little confusion cause you
weren't specifying which machine or os disc

the single user version is a retail copy

i figured if i just installed it on my home computer and
tried to activateit i would get the warning message that
says its already active on another machine

i need steps
------------

what i have
a) my retail xppro disc
b) my multi-install xppro disc
c) my home computer with no OS
d) my work computer with the retail xppro installed

goal
a) get retail xppro installed on home computer
b) switch liscense from retail copy to multi-install copy
on work computer without screwing up any of the bazillion
files and apps on the computer

what are the steps I should follow?
a) ??
b) ??
c) ??

thanks!

What are the steps I should follow?

a) Perform a "Repair Install" of the computer in question using
the Volume License CD and Product Key. This is the only
way to install the VL license.
b) Afterward, you can install XP Pro (the retail version) on your home PC.
c) When you have finished, activate XP as required. If activation fails,
then select the "activate by phone" option.
