Remove Recycle Bin Icon?

C

CWLee

I have just purchased a small laptop which came with Windows
XP Home edition installed. It seems to work fine, but there
are a few small items I need some help with.

I'd like to remove the Recycle Bin icon from the desktop.
It serves no purpose for me. If I ever need to go to it, or
empty it, I can easily do so via Windows Explorer.

I was never able to remove it on my (still running) Windows
2000 Professional desktop, but I have removed it (I don't
remember how) from my (still running) Vista Ultimate
desktop.

Ideas?

Thanks.

Thanks, I'll try it. Is there a similar version for Windows
2000 and Vista?

Thanks again.

For Vista, you don't need TweakU1 to hide the recycle bin
1. Right-click on a blank area of the desktop
2. Select Personalize
3. From the left Tasks column, select Change Desktop Icons
4. Select if you want the recycle bin or not
5. Click OK

In TweakUI, select Desktop; there uncheck Recycle Bin, Apply, OK

You can get TweakUI for XP in two versions; one if you have SPs
installed and one if you don't have SPs installed.

http://windowsxp.mvps.org/tweakui.htm

All tweak UI does is create settings in the policies availble by running
gpedit.msc. Take a look at the policies there and what you can do, and
you may never even consider tweakui again.

This is an XP forum, right?

If you use Google to search for: xp remove recycle bin

you will find several methods: gpedit.msc, TweakUI and registry
edits. Here is a link that mentions them all for XP:

http://www.tweakxp.com/article36805.aspx

if you are not using XP, change your Google search accordingly.

Tweak UI makes the change instantly before your eyes.

Gpedit.msc requires a logoff and logon.

I did not try the registry edit, but it makes sense.

Tweak UI is expedient and has other adjustments to play with, as does
gepedit.msc.

I like Tweak UI for some things, but you can't do everything with that.
