Remove preinstalled windows update

G

Guest

We just recently purchased some new PCs with XP Pro SP2 installed on them.
There are a few of the preinstalled windows updates that cause issues with
some of our enterprise applications. I am not able to remove these updates
using Add/Remove programs.

How can these preinstalled updates be removed?

There has to be a way to do this. Is there any registry changes that can be
made?

Thanks.

I suspect you have not noticed the 'show updates" checkbox at the top of the
Add/Remove dialog.

I have the "show updates" box checked and this specific update shows up but I
can't remove it because it was a preinstalled update from the manufacturer.

If there is a hidden uninstall folder in the %windir%, you remove it with a
command:

c:\windows\$NtServicePackUninstall$\spuninst\spuninst.exe

but I doubt it's there.

There are no hidden uninstall folders for these preinstalled updates. Any
ideas about deleting registry keys?

I read some other info on the internet about possibly removing or modifying
the following registry key:
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\updates\windowsxp\sp3\KB925454\file
list"

Any thoughts about that?

Thanks.
