I'm trying to remove Norton from my computer, but I keep getting a message
saying another installation already in progress complete before proceeding.

I tried this and it tell me theres already an installer/uninstaller running
and I need to finish this session first.

Hello again Karen,

Either open the Task manager (Ctrl-Alt-Delete) and stop the Norton (or
Symantec) process from running, or, stop it from starting at startup in
Start => Run => type in "msconfig" {without the quotes} => Startup tab.
If you can't identify it, restart in Safe Mode and run the Norton
uninstaller from there.

Luck!

After hearing plenty of comments about Norton's notorious uninstalling
issues, I still have Norton SystemWorks 2002 on my system [following an
upgrade from W98SE to XP], and have simply disabled everything Norton
would normally do... Presumably this is a reasonable option?

Otherwise, I see the aforementioned tool for removal in this thread
doesn't seemingly include products prior to 2003. So... If I choose to
uninstall [if subsequently recommended], will this product do the job
AND should I use the XP removal option [as opposed to W98SE] even though
it would've originally been installed on the latter OS.

You could try it if you wanted to, although I don't suggest it since I've never
heard of anyone using it on older products. Not only that, but IIRC there were
warnings when the first couple of uninstallers were released that it should't be used
on any other Sym app or version. If you choose to go ahead and give it a shot, you
do so on your own accord and bare the entire burden upon yourself.
Also, AFAIK there wasn't any uninstaller for NSW or any other app released before
2003. I'll take a peek around and see what I can find in some of the older machines
or stored away backups, who know's, there just may be a ghost hidden away. Other
than that you're better off doing a reformat/clean install unless you want to grind
through the mud manually removing NSW.

How to manually uninstall Norton SystemWorks 2002 or 2003 from Windows XP

As you indirectly suggest... For now, I think I'll just leave it where
it is, disabled, and potentially get rid of it with a clean install as
and when. Thanks. :)
