remove ME from XP

I just loaded XP on to and older computer with just 10 gig hard drive. Was
running ME on it before and it showed about 5 gig free. Now after the
install there is only less than 2 gig free. Is XP just that big or is ME
still somewhere I can't find to delete it. Windows ME was an upgrade to 98
installed on the computer originally. How do you remove any old windows OS
to free up disk space?
Thanks in advance.

The first thing that I would do in your case is to go out and get a bigger hard drive. They are not that very expensive.

Now to your issue. Putting XP on a computer with 10gigs is by itself cutting it close. I would do a complete clean reformat of the hard drive and then install XP on it by itself. Keeping in mind that XP alone by itself needs quite a big amount of space . Now imagine that with today's software's you do not have enough space to run XP and programs correctly

XP is going to be severely restricted on a Win 98 machine.
Save yourself a lot of headaches and uninstall XP.
