Remove Hardware Safely...

I just did an upgrade for a friend from 98se to XPpro. Everything went well and it runs quickly and smooth. One thing though...this is on a laptop computer and the safely remove hardware icon will not show up. If I go into customize, I see it under past items. I did try to select "always show", but that did not make a difference. Asit stands now, he has to shut-down each time he wants to switch from floppy to dvd. When this was a 98se machine he had a third party program that would take care of this, but it is not compatable with XP, so it was recommended by Windows that it be uninstalled.

I would love some suggestions as to how to get this function back up (the xp one). However, I would also be pretty happy if someone could point me toward a replacement program that will handle this procedure.

The Safely Remove Hardware function is more limited than its name implies.
It is intended only for devices {especially USB} which you must disconnect
from the system before you can safely unplug the device. An example is an
external USB drive. The icon will only show in your notification area {even
if you select "always Show"} if you have such a device connected to the
computer.

The Safely Remove Hardware function does not apply to devices connected to
internal buses.

Not sure if it's the same, but these are the removeable drives that are designed to be removed while the OS is on.
