I have a Toshiba pcx 1100u external USB Cable Modem. The
modem works fine. In my system tray the safely remove
hardware wizzard keeps popping up. It wants me to remove
my modem. I thought somehow I might have installed my
modem twice or something crazy like that. I opened the
wizzard and chose to disable the modem so I could see what
would happen. After disabling ti I couldn't go onto the
internet, but the wizzard stopped popping up. I then
enabled the modem and could go on the net again. as soon
as I enabled it the wizzard returned to the system tray.
WHY? and what can I do about it? thanks
carl

The icon appears in the taskbar whenever a device that should be removed
with the wizard(like some USB devices and PC Card devices on a laptop) is
installed. It isn't asking you to remove the device right then, it is just
putting the icon there to notify you that there is a device that you should
use the wizard to remove when you are ready, and to make the option more
accessible so you don't have to go dig for it.
