"Remove Hardware Safely" message

I have a Sony DSC that has been working fine for 2 years, but will no longer work with the WindowsXP Scanner and Camera Wizard, all of a sudden. Instead of the wizard popping up when I connect the camera (which connects to the USB port), I get a "Remove Hardware Safely" wizard, which recognizes the camera and says it is "working properly", but the scanner and camera wizard says it does not detect the camera, UGH. I've checked the camera, my USB ports and USB root hubs in the device manager and they are all "working properly." I have tried the camera in both USB ports, with no luck. So basically I can take pictures and they look beautiful on the camera, but I have no way to get them onto my computer and print them out...Can someone help me?

I have had a similar problem...I've had my Sony DSC-P10
for about 3 months and putting pictures onto my laptop
has been no problem until recently, when the Scanner and
Camera Wizard no longer comes up when I plug in the
camera-nothing happens at all. It IS possible for me to
still get the photos off the camera but it's one hell of
a faff. I thought the problem could have been caused by
me plugging the camera into a friend's computer using a
different USB cable but I've since tested the camera
(with its own cable) on my friend's laptop and everything
works fine. I've checked both the device & USB root hubs,
everything seems OK. I've also uninstalled and
reinstalled the drivers, and formatted my Memory Stick,
all to no avail. Any other suggestions?

I have had the same problem with my Sony DSCP71 camera and Toshiba XP laptop!.
If I switch users on my laptop, and then connect the camera, the scanner and camera wizard works ok.
It seems I must have deleted a critical file on 'my account' in windows xp.
Hope this helps.

You can try to repair this wizard (the Autoplay window) as given below. It
has worked for many, but not everybody.
