I have 2 email accounts set up in OL.
I had duplicate Personal Folders - fixed it with a new profile
I could not see the address book - fixed it by resetting address services.

However once i reset address services and pointed the contacts folder to
"work as email address book", I got duplicate Personal Folders again.

I cant seem to set up OL 2003 with 2 mail accounts and
1 Contacts folder that is directed to work with the 2 mail accounts.

You've left out too much detail.
Resetting the Outlook Address Book will not create a duplicate Personal
Folders file.
Clarify the steps you used and what makes you think you have a duplicate
file.

Sorry.
If this isnt better, I will go back and recreate all the steps and document
problem better. Here I go:

I have one OL profile.
In that profile, I have two POP mail accounts set up that are regularly
being checked.

Problems:
1) I have 2 Personal Folders that are duplicates of each other. They are
'real time' duplicates meaning that anything that happens in one, happens in
the other. Both have the same sub folders, etc.
2) When creating a new message, I cannot see the 'Contact List' email
addresses. Apparently it is because OL is showing 2 Contact folders and it
is chosing the wrong one by default. When looking for an address from my
email message, after I get redirected by the error message if I chose the
other Contact folder I can see my email address. But I have two do that
every time.

OL has suggested that I go in and delete the extra contact folder.
Immediately when I do that, the second Personal Folder appears. Wierd.

It appears that I a) have to live with 2 personal folders or 2) everytime I
select "to" in a mail message I get an error which sends me to where I can
select the 'other' Contact list.

Fixes I have tried:
I have right clicked on the Personal Folders and they are grayed out.

I have went into the profile and selected both Personal Folders in the drop
down menu and it makes no difference.

I have deleted and recreated my mail profile. This gets rid of of one
Personal Folder.

I have deleted the extra contact list. But this seems directly connected to
the creation the extra personal folder.

You have two separate issues here.
Recreating a new profile from scratch will solve the problem of having an
entire duplicate set of Personal Folders, but only if you do so correctly.
You appear not to be doing so correctly. State your Outlook version and how
you are creating this profile. If it is Outlook 2003, I suspect that what is
happening is that you are allowing Outlook to create its own, new default
PST, then migrating your old data incorrectly (by importing, for example),
thereby creating 2 default PST's.
The second issue is an invalid reference to a Contacts Folder in your
Outlook Address Book. That is easy to fix, but only after you get your new
profile created correctly.

Use these instructions for creating your new profile:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;829918&Product=out2003

Use these instructions for configuring your new profile to use your old
Outlook Data File. Note that at no point does it tell you to import any
data:

I use OL2003.
Before I create the New Profile per your reccomendation you should know:
1) I created the new profile throught 'mail' in the control panel. That
said, is your direction still the same? 2) I am transferring a current
OL2003 pst file into the base OUTLOOK folder (that one that is burried under
'Local Settings). My process has been - create a new profile, delete the new
pst file (usually called Outlook1) and change the name of the one I
transferred to Outlook1. The result up to this point hsa been fine. All of my
transferred information is there with only 1 Personal Folder. The second
personal folder comes later as explained below.

With this new information, is your direction still the same?

Absolutely! I wish you had shared this information before now. It sure is
hard to read minds.
You have been corrupting every profile you've ever created. You never
delete/rename/overwrite PST files.
Use the directions I posted.
