remove fax service from Outlook2002?

Todd

The problem I am having is that when I enter both a fax
number and email address in for a contact, both appear as
separate line items in the address list of the address
book using the contacts name. When I try to compose an
email message for a contact with both the fax number and
email address I don't know which contact name for that
contact to use. One of them is the fax number and one is
the email address.

Will removing the fax service take care of this problem?
If so, how do I remove it?

If not then can someone suggest how I can get the fax
number to stop appearing in the address book list and
still be able to enter the fax number for the contact in
the contacts folder.

Thanks you,

Todd

It has nothing to do with the presence of the fax service. The standard
behavior for the Outlook Address book is to display all electronic addresses
(both fax and e-mail). That behavior cannot be changed. The only way to
prevent the display of fax numbers is to store them in a different field or
to disguise them (e.g., precede them with an alpha character) so that
Outlook won't recognize them as phone numbers.
There are also a number of utilities available that can do this for you
automatically. Some are listed here:

I believe the 2nd entry is always the fax entry assuming you have only
one e-mail address and one fax number set up for your contact. Bob

I am having the same problem. But I need to have the fax
numbers in my address book. Deleting them from the
contact list is not a viable solution for me. If you get
an answer, please contact me.

There are two ways of doing this. The easiest way is to
just type the person's name in the 'To' box instead of
opening your address book. Go down to the subject area
of your email. If the person only has an email or only
has a fax, it will automatically pick it. If they have
both, the name will be underlined in red. Once it is
underlined, right click on it and pick either the fax or
the email. Once you have picked one, it sets a default
and always picks the same each time you send a new
email. You can change the default if you like at a later
time. If you think you need to open the address book,
just drag the bar over in the bottom of the name list.
Each line will either have a SMTP (email) or FAX beside
the name to identify which is is. Hopefully this helps.
