remove drivers (hardware from hardware manager) of already(physically) removed devices.

hey everyone.

i know, there is a way to do that. i've once found a support-site from microsoft, but wasn't able to find it again, after a clean reinstallation. if anyone could give me hint here...
 
please, does noone know how this is working? what are you guys doing if you hardware is defective and it isn't detected by winxp any longer? you just go and reinstall it? i mean, not that i would make me wonder too much.
