Remove border lines from document.

I have a document that had "border" lines inserted by
using --- and hitting enter. This creates a border line
that can be moved up and down but I can't seem to just
remove them. I tried disabling the border line function in
the auto correct options but this does not seem to help.
Anyone know how these can be removed in Word 2000?
