Hi:
I have a HP pavilion 750c, Win XP- Home (SP2) and under "My Computer" it
shows the following list of "Devices with Removable Storage":
31/2 Floppy Drive A:, CD-RW Drive D:, DVD-R Drive E: and Removable Disk
Drive F:. Where is this drive located? The XP Backup Utility gives my only
two drive options for backup: Drive A: and Drive F:. Since a backup takes
about 1hour 45 minutes it would require too many Floppies I would like to use
a CD. Is this possible?
Thanks,

Ntbackup was carried over from NT and is designed to work with tape
drives. It will not backup to CD unless you have 3rd party burning
software installed, and then will not "span" cd's. In other words what
you can fit on one CD is all it will do. There are better backup
options avaiable.

Hi Rock:
Thanks for your fast response. I suspected that it wouldn't be that simple
and that more software would be required. BTW, is there a removable drive F:?
Thanks,
Fred

You're welcome. Only you can say if there is one. Did you install an
external drive at one point, memory card, card reader, etc? Look in
device manager.

Hi Rock:
Yes, I installed a HP photosmart 1115 printer that has two card reader
slots. That must be the "Removable Drive F:" that I see. I appreciate your
help.
Thanks, Fred

If the backup utility is offering it, it suggests it is finding a tape
drive. - check what is shown in Control Panel - System - Hardware -
Device Manager

This is the only realistic device supported by the backup utility; it is
really there for people bringing tapes forward from NT. You can back up
to a CD-RW if you install a third party 'packet writing' package like
InCD, but NTBackup will not span multiple disks so it is not really
useful;

Thank you Alex and Rock for your advise and help. I really do appreciate your
time and effort effort to assist us PC dummies.... :>)
