remote shutdown

i have 2 computers
1 laptop running xp pro
1. desktop was running xp home but upgraded to xp pro

ive been trying to do the shutdown -m \\desktop but it does not work. i get
an access denied can someone help me

the username and password are probably what are giving you the access
denied errors is the user account you're logged onto the same as the
computer with administrator privileges.

I am logged on as the admin on both computers

Does the admin on the machine you are running the script from have
admin access to the other workstation are is the username / password
the same. Also try running tsshutdn. I have found this to be a
reliable exe.

yes it is
i also tried doing the tsshutdown but i get this error
Error opening Terminal server desktop.
Error [1722]:The RPC server is unavailable.
any ideas
