Remote Procedure Call Service

P

Pat

I am running Windows XP Pro, clean fresh install. Works
fine until I access the internet. Shortly after
connecting (time frame varies) I receive this message:

Windows must now restart because the Remote Procedure
Call Service terminated unexpectedly.

60 seconds later machine restarts...

Any help solving the problem is much appreciated.

A bit more information...

I had the Blaster Virus, but was removed by Mcafee. This
in turn removed my TCP/IP ( error message on startup ).
Was unable to get my network running due to this. After
attempting to reinstall TCP/IP gave up and reformated the
hard drives first making sure that I flushed the MBR.
Clean install of XP and I am greeted with the RPC shut
down first time onto the internet to download drivers.

you must disable system restore before running the virus removal tool.
otherwise it will still be present.

Had exact same problem.
Reinstall clean with complete reformat and repartition option Windows XP Pro gives you in options. As soon as you get it running, install antivirus software and microsoft patch 823980. (I'm pretty sure about patch #. It is off top of my head - check it)The patch closes the vulnerability of XP to the blaster worm. Good luck.
