Remote Procedure Call Terminates Unexpectedly

M

Mike

After connecting to the internet via modem and after a few
minutes being connected, I receive a popup message that
says "... system shutdown was initiated by NT
AUTHORITY/SYSTEM ... Windows must restart because the
Remote procedure Call (RPC) service terminated
unexpectedly".

There was a previous post from "Hernando" (Jan 5)
regarding this problem. I cannot stay connected to
Windows Update long enough to download and install the
critical patches and updates and I have not disabled any
of the services suggested by blackviper.

Any other suggestions?

Greetings --

If you connected the PC to the Internet without
having first
installed the KB824146 Hotfix, without having first
installed an
antivirus application with current virus definition
files, and before
enabling a firewall, you're very likely to get infected
from any of
the thousands of PCs on the Internet that are constantly
broadcasting
the Blaster and/or Welchia worms. It only takes a few
seconds of
exposure.

To stay on-line long enough to get the necessary
updates, patches,
and removal tools, click Start > Run, and
enter "shutdown -a" when the
next RPC countdown begins. This will abort the shut
down. Also, make
sure you've enabled a firewall before starting, to
preclude any more
intrusions while getting the updates/patches/tools.

Yes you apparently have the win32.blaster.worm on your computer. You need to disconnet the RJ 45 cable from your modem port in the back of the system unit. then go to the control panel and open your internet connection. Enable your firewall. Reconnect the RJ 45 to the modem port. Go to the Windows update site and download the security update with the number 824146. This works because I've done it. Go to the Symantec.com website and download the blaster worm fix tool to your computer and follow the instructions at the site for your operating system
