Hello Group,
We are using Win2K Server / SP4.
We have started receiving errors while trying to copy files from office
servers to remote servers.
This is a daily routine and was able to be completed without issue up until
a month or so ago.

Error = cannot copy file: The specified network name is no longer available
- path is too deep.

We do have 1 PC in the office that is still able to file transfer using same
OS and applying same MS patches.

I have tried a couple of things to try and get past this error without
success.

1) Tried changing NIC card from "auto" to "full duplex" / "half duplex" /
"10Mbps - 100Mbps".
2) Tried changing NIC card to match the one that does still allow file
transfers.
3) Tried changing NIC CAT5 cable.
4) Tried changing port on 3COM switch to use the port that does allow file
transfers.
5) Tried increasing Memory in failing PC's

Thanks in advance for your time and responses.

If the message says "The path is too deep" then playing with your
network adapters or with your memory won't have any effect at
all. You must do something about your excessively long path.
The combination of path name + file name must not exceed 255
characters. Put your information into your files, not into your file
names!
