remote desktop web connection not working

B

bob page

i have been trying to set up remote desktop web connection
and using remote desktop (the program) but none of them can
connect. The firewall at the client end has a firewall that
blocks the port that remote desktop uses (which i cant
change on the firewall) (3389) so i changed the port on the
remote desktop server for remote desktop to a port that the
client server firewall allows from the registry from one of
microsofts help pages but it still does not work, do i have
to also change the port in the registry of the client
computer for it to work or does the server make the client
computer use the port that i selected on the server?

i get the message remote desktop disconnected, both using
the remote desktop program and remote desktop web
connection.

Could there be another reson why it is not letting me
connect?

The client computer goes through a proxy server and the
server has a direct connection to the web without a
firewall. They both run on xp pro.

I can get the remote desktop conenct page come up in the
tsweb folder from the client computer but i cant connect
even when i have the active x plugin installed that it
prompts me to install when i click connect.
