I am currently atempting to use remote desktop to transfer files from my
desktop to my laptop. Both are running windows XP professional. I can connect
from my desktop to my laptop, but none of the transfer folders are displayed.

I have enabled everything and firewall is completely disabled. I turn on the
remote access, type in the IP Address that I got directly from the other
computer, and press connect. It loads for a minute, then it abruptly stops
and leaves me at exactly the same screen.

Please help me out.

Your description does not make it clear where exactly you
type in the other machine's IP address. It would also help if
you stated the IP addresses of the two machines involved.
Maybe a simple share connection would suffice?

We use RDP at work all the time and it's reliable so your problem might be
an awkward one to find.

Since you have XP Pro on both you should be able to RD both ways, can you
get it working the other way around?

However aside from this problem I agree with Pegasus, you would find it far
easier to simply share a folder on one machine, if you use the laptop
elsewhere then I suggest sharing on the home machine, that way you reduce
the risk of faulty permissions while the laptop is connected elsewhere.
Simply look in "My Network Places" and make a shortcut for future use...
then you can just drag and drop.

And you can automate the process using this
