Remote Desktop does not connect when I have a keyboard

This is a good one. I have Remote Desktop set up properly on my home machine
(XP Pro, up-to-date). At first, I thought it just wouldn't accept connections
at all for any reason. No error messages, no timeouts. I click connect and
the connection window goes to work for a few seconds and then comes back like
nothing happens, ready to accept a new connection. It will not accept
connections from any machine, regardless of whether I connect using the IP
address or the machine name.

But then one day my keyboard stopped working so I couldn't enter a password
at the login screen. At this point in time, Remote Desktop would work, and I
could use another machine to login and reinstall my keyboard driver. After
logging out, my machine would go back to silently rejecting remote
connections. I've tried repairing my XP installation, and re-updating from
SP1, and I still experience the same problem.

Also of note is that this machine can still make outgoing connections to
other Windows machines. File sharing also works without problems, except I
have to connect to the shares using the IP address. If I use the machine
name, I get an error message saying the computer cannot be found. I'm not
sure if this is related or not. There are other XP machines on the network
that do not experience these problems. I can remote into them from any other
machine, including this problem-machine. They also have file sharing and I
can connect using both their names and IPs. These problems occur with all
three of my routers, all of which are different brands.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is quite bothersome.

Thank you.

"Keyboard not working" is pretty much your indicator here. I think it would
be worth it to flash the BIOS, assuming you have already tried refreshing
the keyboard driver with device manager. Generally, I think you should look
to a physical problem of some kind.
