You will have to go with a third party solution for remote desktop. The
remote desktop that is built into XP requires for the computer that is being
remotely accessed to have XP Pro.

You carnt use windows’s remote desktop with home editon, how ever
this dosnt stop you from using RealVNC, Ultr@VNC or TightVNC.

Real: http://www.realvnc.com/
Ultr@: http://ultravnc.sourceforge.net/
Tight: http://www.tightvnc.com/

you did'nt mention which OS you are using...
using third party software your problem can be solved.......
you can use VNC software for remote desktop connection.......
go to google search and type VNC you will get a freeware edition......
and the version is VNC 4.0 .......

If the OP uses WinXP Professional then he should use
Remote Desktop. It is far superior to WinVNC and
much faster.

The OP did mention his OS: "...two computers that

"you did’nt mention which OS you are using..."
Yes they did, "winxp home edition".

"using third party software your problem can be solved.......

I said that, so did a few other people.

"go to google search and type VNC you will get a freeware

I have already provided the links to the three most populare
"Real: http://www.realvnc.com/
Ultr@: http://ultravnc.sourceforge.net/
Tight: http://www.tightvnc.com/"

"and the version is VNC 4.0 ......."
The software you refer to is real VNC, and the version is not 4.0, it
is 4.1.1.
