Remote Desktop Connection through Firewall

Jeff

I have a laptop computer with XP Pro. At home I can connect to a Windows
Server 2003 Standard machine via Remote Desktop connection just fine. But
when I'm at a local public library I cannot connect. When at the local
library I can browse the Internet just fine - so they must have Port 80
opened. But when I try to use Remote Desktop Connection, the computer just
freezes... same result when I attempt to use Outlook Express to connect to
an NNTP server. But everything works fine (I can connect to NNTP servers and
via Remote Desktop Connection) when I'm on my network at home.

What ports must be opened in order for me to be able to use Remote Desktop
Connection? I looked at my existing functional connections and did not find
any property for port number (not on the XP Pro client side nor in the
Windows Server side). I must be missing something.

I googled this and found that port 80 is required, but that's apparently not
the case because at the library I can browse the Internet just fine but
Remote Desktop Connection just seems to hang (no meaningful error message).

What am I missing?

Thanks!

Remote Desktop requires port 3389 by default. Now how are
you going to convince the librarian to open this port for you?

LOL!

I'm sure it will require a *very* non technical solution!

Thanks for your help.
