Remote Desktop Connection: Remember Password?

P

(PeteCresswell)

Couple days ago, I let MS's AutoUpdate feature install a bunch of security
updates.

Now, when I edit a .RDP file, the dialog is different and I cannot figure out
where to specify the password. I've got a PW specified in that .RDP and it's
obsolete.... so every time I run it, I'm exposed to client's "Two strikes and
you're out" policy.

Anybody been here?

How to get back to the old dialog?

You can manually edit the rdp file in notepad. Right click on the file,
select Open with, select Notepad in the list and click OK (Make sure that
"always use" is *not* checked). Find the line that begins with password,
and remove it. Note that the line is so long that it might actually display
in notepad as two lines. The password is encrypted so it should be obvious
if the encrypted value continues on the next line.

Uninstall RDP client 6.0. To do that open Add or Remove Programs in the
Control Panel, check the Show Updates setting at the top. With that checked
you should see "Update for Windows XP (KB925876)" under Windows XP -
Software Updates. Select that entry and click Remove. This will uninstall
the updated RDP client, leaving the older 5.1 version on your machine.

I just tried to uninstall the RDP Client 6.0 following the instructions
below. When I try to do the uninstall, I get an error message indicating most
of the programs I have installed might not run properly after I uninstall
this. What now??
