Remote Desktop Connection Encryption Level

Ofer Zur

Dear Colleagues,

I do know that when one is using RDP to connect from a
Windows XP Professional to a Terminal Server it is using
the highest level of encryption 128 bit. My question is,
is that the same when you use RDP between two XP
professional stations?

Can i recommend to a client that using RDP between two XP
(home or Professional) is secure enough that there is no
need for a vpn?

Thanks a bunch.

By default, the client will try to use the highest encryption level
that is allowed.. In most instances, this will be 128 bit. However,
the security strength can be set lowered via group policy or registry
hacks. When the client encounters this, it will drop down to the
security level supported by the server.
