Remote control of computer?

I would like to control, or at least access info) from a computer in another
city. This is a personal computer at second residence. It is not networked
currently in any way.
Can someone suggest a procedure and/or software or hardware that can help me
set this up?

Presumably both have XP? Then you have built-in software in XP.
