I have win 2000 pro, DSL 4 port modem, static IP. No
matter what I try to do I can't connect to my computer say
from out of town via http. My ISP can't figure out the
problem and I have no firewall, we have set up ports inc.
the usual and to route the 10.0.0 etc. to an ip of
64.x.x.x.x etc. I have tried to use IIS to no avail
anybody willing to help finger this out. I would
appreciate it, send me an email. OH I can access my modem
from out of town though hmmmmm. Thanx

do you try to access to this windows 2000 pro or access from this win2000 pro?
what is your client PC and Host PC
(or you try to access this pc to your router?)

DSL 4 port modem (maybe router) re which brand and model?
is that Upnp enable or remote administartion(Management) enable?
static IP.

Static global IP or Private IP on each PC or Router?
No matter what I try to do I can't connect to my computer say

did you add your target ip address to trusted site in Internet Explorer's Internet Options?

is this means you setup your router to forward IP address?
did you open port on your Router?

202ER-4 are Router, and this one has built in firewall
http://www.dqusa.com/collateral/202ER-4 Four Port Router ADSL.pdf

10.0.0x range are Private IP address.
(10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255 (10/8 prefix)
172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255 (172.16/12 prefix)
192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255 (192.168/16 prefix)
these 3 IP range are private IP)
but OK you have IP forward.

what kind of Operating System running on host computer?
(Windows2000 server, Linux, Windows NT Netware, etc.?)
how you try to access from client pc to host pc?
(IIS running on windows server, via terminal service,
VPN, VNC, or any other http server or ftp server are running?)

you need specific your question.
what do you have now and how do you want access.
and specific what is problem (which means you need understand problem).

did not understand your first answer, but I think this might answer your question, I have to be able to >"get into" my
computer via http or ftp from anywhere on the planet
for example I am in another state and my computer is on and online, i need to be able to get to it via http >or ftp. I
cant access it from any of my computers on my local network
using the above example, but i can access the files and folders etc. on my local network only, not via ftp >or http.
For instance we have a macintosh on our local network and I access
the macintosh via http.
As to your second question I have a Vision net ADSL 202ER-4 modem, as far as I know i do not have a >router.
I just called my ISP and they tell me that my static ip is global ( or further definition is needed) each pc I >have
three and one mac all have ip's in the 10.0.0 range etc. Yes we did open several ports in
the modem for this purpose. I am not to sure i understand what you mean by trusted sites in internet >explorer though
that one is new to me. As far as I know the router/modem is set up to forward the ip >address of 64.xxxxx to 10.0xxxx
Thats all i have right now, I very much appreciate your feedback and hopefully through your asistance I >can get this
nagging problem figured out. I look forward to your reply, and please reply to this email.

thank you for replying. My operating system is windows
2000 professional, I am trying to access the host computer
(mine) via http. I have IIS running and also set up ftp
server. I want to be able to access my computer (host) via
http/ftp from another computer not on my network. The
problem is I can't connect to my computer (host) via http
or any other method. Yes I have left my computer running
and online and taken my IP addresses with me and tried to
http into my computer, without success. Thanx again
