Remote Assistance Remembering Previous Connection Settings

I've been using remote assistance to connect to my Dad's computer and
help him out when the need arises. I recently had his computer at my
house to do add some new hardware and while it was here, I was
connecting to it using remote assistance and it worked fine (as it
always had). Once he took the computer home and got it set back up
again, I can no longer connect to it.

While it was at my place, I was connecting to it through my LAN and it
was referenced by the local IP (192.168.etc) I suspect it still holds
a reference to that IP now that its' back at his house and isn't
allowing me to connect because it no longer is using that IP.

Does anyone know how to eliminate and previous connection history with
Remote Assistance?

I do not think 'Connection History' is your problem...

It was at your home and you are obviously behind a router so his machine had
a private IP while there. Since you were using Remote Assistance - he
obviously made a request and you responded. Then you connected and he
allowed you to view and then he allowed you to take control if necessary...

Now it is back at his home. There are many new variables.

Is he behind a router of his own at home?
- Yes? Then is the router configured to forward the proper port requests
through to his machine? (By IP or uPnP?)
- Also - if yes - did you verify that the request file you received had
his public IP, not his private one?

Has he re-issued the request for assistance to you (through MSN, email,
etc?)

Is his firewall (software and hardware) allowing traffic from the Internet
through to his machine for port 3389?

Essentially - anything you had 'setup' while in your home became null and
void when he left. You had to start from scratch. His IP was not going to
be the same and even if the private IP was the same - that shouldn't matter
to you anyway. A new remote assistance request would have to be made, the
proper ports would have to be forward through any router involved and any
software/hardware firewall as well.
