Remote Access Service Problem

I just re-installed Windows 2000 Professional (for the 3rd time!) on my
machine. When it first came back up all my previous settings seemed to be
lost. But... When I tried rebooting again the CheckDisk application ran and
brought up my previous install. I tried repairing this install with Emergency
Repair Disk and it seemed to work fine except... my modem wasn't recognized.
Once I uninstalled and then re-installed the modem and drivers everything
seemed fine but I couldn't connect to the internet. I tried the "Network and
dialup connections" wizard. I can enter all information, but after the last
step (connection name) I get the error message that I need to choose another
name for the connection(no matter what name I use). I even tried all 3 ways
but got the message "Error 1068". Can anyone help?

1068 = The dependency service or group failed to start

Might be time for that clean install.

To do a clean install, either boot the Windows 2000 install CD-Rom or setup
disks. The set of four install disks can be created from your Windows 2000
CD-Rom; change to the \bootdisk directory on the CD-Rom and execute
makeboot.exe (from dos) or makebt32.exe (from 32 bit) and follow the
prompts.

When you get to the point, delete the existing NTFS and or other partitions
found. After you delete the partition(s) abort the install, then again
restart the pc booting the CD-Rom or setup disks to avoid unexpected drive
letter assignments with your new install.

Be sure to apply these to your new install before connecting to any network.
