Remote Access Connection Manager broken

Hi,

This morning I changed one of my systems from FAT32 to NTFS. Later in the
day I defragged the system. In between I know that my dialup internet
connection was working. Now I have no internet connection on that system.
When I try to recreate it I get error 711. When I try to restart the Remote
Access Connection Manager service I get error 193:0xc1. What broke and how
do I fix it?

Thanks!

Hi Eric,

I already tried that.

When I try to restart the Remote Access Connection Manger service, I get:
Could not start the RACM service on Local Computer; error 193:0xc1.

When I try to restart the Remote Access Auto Connection Manager, I get:
Could not start the RAACM service on Local Computer; error 1068: the
dependency service or group failed to start.

I have no problems with the Telephony service. It seems that the RACM is at
fault here since the RAACM has a dependancy to it. I'm assuming that I need
to repair/reinstall something to overcome this but I'm not at all sure what
needs repairing/reinstalling.

FYI, during the defrag process (using Diskeeper Pro) I was warned of a disk
problem and the need to run CHKDSK. I did so, noted no unusual problems, and
continued with defrag.

Look like a corrupted file. You might have a look at rasmans.dll and see if
anything obvious is wrong (eg file missing, no permissions etc)

An "SFC /SCANNOW" might help too.

It would seem that SFC silently fixed the problem. I watched it part of the
time it ran and when I came back to the computer it was finished and closed
out. Out of habit, I rebooted the system and my internet connection now
works.

Oddly, it took 2 reboots and 1 restart to get the system to recognize the
mouse after SFC. I've since run a chkdsk and all seems well now.

Thanks!
