Reminders don't dismiss when calendar item moved to the futur

I'm using Outlook 2003 on Windows XP Pro. Office 2003 SP3 is installed.
Normally when a calendar reminder pops up in Outlook, if I double-click the
appointment in the Reminders popup to open the Appointment and I change the
date to a date in the future, then close and save it, the reminder is
automatically dismissed (disappears from the Reminders popup). But for a
couple of months the reminder does not dismiss and I have to click the
dismiss button to remove it from the Reminders window. Does anyone know of a
fix for this behavior?

Thanks,
Don

Try starting Outlook once with the /cleanreminders command switch.

I had two shortcuts to start Outlook. One didn't allow me to change the
command but the other did.

It had this in the comand line.

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\OUTLOOK.EXE" /recycle

What does /recycle do?

Anyway, I changed it to

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\OUTLOOK.EXE" /cleanreminders

and started Outlook but that didn't fix the problem. I even tried closing
and restarting Outlook (with the command line set back to /recycle) to no
avail.

It tells Outlook to reuse the existing Outlook window when you start another
instance.
Anyway, I changed it to

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\OUTLOOK.EXE" /cleanreminders

Next time, click Start>Run and enter "outlook.exe /cleanreminders" in the
Open field. Click OK.

Was Outlook completely closed when you used /cleanreminders?

Ok, I ran it from Start > Run as you indicate below. I copied and pasted

outlook.exe /cleanreminders

into the Run box to make sure I had it right. Outlook started up.
Unfortunately the symptom persists. BTW, the appointment is successfully
moved on the calendar. It appears that if I just click the X at the upper
right corner of the Reminders dialog to close it, the next time it comes up
the reminder for the appointment I moved does NOT come up, but that would not
be any more acceptable as a workaround than clicking the Dismiss button. I
just mention it in case that might help figure out what is causing the
problem.
