Remember publish type, and password

Hi folks,

I am synchronising with a server running FrontPage extensions, and this is
all working fine now.

A couple of pains though:

1. FrontPage won't remember the password I'm using, even when I click the
Remember Password checkbox.

2. FrontPage doesn't remember the last publish type. It always defaults to
Local to Remote, rather than Synchronize. Annoying!

Can this be changed?

TIA

David: Michael wants to know what's going on. Marko, what's going on?
Marko: I don't know. What's going on, Paul?
Paul: Wait a minute. Who wants to know?
Dwayne: Michael wants to know.

This is due to a setting in IE.

Click on Tools > Internet Options > Security
Click on 'Trusted Sites'
Click on "Sites" and add your site URL to the trusted zone
Click on 'Custom Level'
Select the choice at the bottom to 'Automatic logon with current username and password'

Certainly hope you don't publish that text file too

| Same problem with FP2000. I get around it by putting a text file named
| webpublish.txt in the root of each web that contains the ID & PW for the web
| host (I use several different ones). Before I publish I open the txt file
| and copy/paste the ID or PW into the FP publish dialog.

FP does not publish the text file. I'm not sure why it doesn't. Maybe
there is some way to flag a file as not to be published?

This is an interesting solution. Will it work with multiple sites that have
different user ID's and passwords? It seemed to me the it was a FP
problem -- FP seems to have no way of remembering what the ID/PW is for each
site.

right-click the file in folder view and select "don't publish"

FP does remember login info, however you must use File Menu | Open Web / Site and then double click
the site's URL that you want to open in the dialog.

Not a FP problem, Since FP uses IE (wininet) to manage passwords

I can't get it to work :-( In that I tried what you suggested and I still
get the prompt for password (and it doesn't save).

I've added some very minor steps below, as I had to fill in the blanks a
little. I guess these are the correct steps? Just in case I'm missing
something...

In Internet Explorer..
Click on Tools > Internet Options > Security
Click on 'Trusted Sites'
Click on "Sites" and add your site URL to the trusted zone Click OK
Click on 'Custom Level'
Select the choice at the bottom to 'Automatic logon with current
username and password'
Click OK twice

Hi Thomas,

Why go the long route when a shortcut is available. I merely click on the publish icon in the toolbar and it takes me to the last publish site for that particular web. Been doing that for awhile using 02 and 03 but can't remember if it was also in 2000

Because I always want to be sure that I am publish the site to the correct location, and when using
the Publish button you don't have that check. I work will over 30 + web sites, and by using File
Menu | Publish Web, I have never had any problems.

Plus when I make major changes to a site, I will normally publish it as a subweb first, and then
when approved, publish to the root, you can not do this using the Publish button.

Point taken. I only manage 6 sites and I check in the remote site view that the right site is selected as the publish destination.
