How do I reload an XP Home OS that has been loaded once
on a computer that died?

Boot from your Home CD, choose Enter for a new install and F8 to accept the
EULA and then R to repair the installation that it finds. If you have OEM
software the steps will be provided by the OEM.

Provided it was not an OEM version that dies along with the machine
where first installed and may not be transferred, you just go ahead and
install on the new one. When it comes to activation, if it is more than
120 days since you last did it, you will find it will go through on the
net just like first time. If not, you will have to phone a toll-free
number that will be given, to explain and swap one long number for
another to check back as you type it in
