I recently downloaded the FREE AVGE and am having trouble sending my email.
What does this relaying mean? I'm not relaying anything. All I want to do
is send my mail as I always have. Anyone know? I have it set to *NOT* scan
outgoing mail but that setting doesn't seem to change anything. This never
once happened with Norton. Anyone.......

This is the AVG E-mail Scanner program.

I'm sorry to have to inform you that the message returned
below could not be delivered to one or more destinations.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
(e-mail address removed): 5.7.1 Relaying not allowed: (e-mail address removed)

Your e-mail message is being returned to you in the next part of this
message. Try to send the message again.

Should you need assistance, please contact your administrator or your
Internet service provider.

=== it is not AVG , I don't think .... it might be the email addresses
mailbox that you were sending to was full , or they are serviceing it
at the time you tried sending, I would try again later, makeing sure
the address is exactly right ...========

Thanks but I doubt everyone's box was full. I sent out about 20 emails and
got the same error for all of them. Also, AVG can't be disabled unless one
goes into msconfig, then reboots. A real PIA just to send some emial.

It's got nothing to do with the recipients server. It is happening because
you have SMTP Relay turned off ...

In my server, that setting is located under Server Options and is labelled
"Allow Relay"

Note: If you enable this, you MUST ensure you also enable authentication
requirements or anyone will be able to send e-mail via your server (not
something you want as you'll very quickly be black-listed by the likes of
ORBS, RBL etc)

How and where do I turn it on? I don't see anything about relays or Server
Options in the program.

Where are all these things located in the FREE version? For example there
is nothing in the helpfiles about servers.

Give this a try (it's all I could find on their website, so if you've
already tried it or it doesn't work, either find an alternative program, or
contact Grisoft - http://www.grisoft.com/doc/51/lng/us/tpl/tpl01)

How can I disable scanning of outgoing emails in the Personal E-mail
Scanner?
You may experience difficulties sending emails after the installation of AVG
and the Personal Email Scanner plug-in. In addition, there may be other
reasons why emails were returned erroneously to the sender that are
unrelated to AVG (for example: failed authentication of the SMTP server,
internet connection difficulties, termination of a dial-up internet
connection by Outlook Express, etc.).

Disabling the outgoing email scanner may solve these problems or, at the
very least, help determine if AVG is causing the difficulty.

a.. Launch the AVG Control Center (by double-clicking on the AVG icon in
the system tray)

b.. Double-click on the Email Scanner component

c.. Choose Personal Email Scanner from the list of installed plug-ins

d.. Click on the Properties button

e.. Click on the Servers tab, select the SMTP email server and click on
Modify button

f.. Disable the Activate this server and use for sending/receiving e-mail
option in the new window dialog

g.. Apply the new settings by clicking the OK button.

Note that the security of your computer is not compromised by disabling
scanning of outgoing email. The incoming email scanner is still active and
protecting your computer.
