Reinstalling XP

Guest

I have a Dell Notebook and I tried to reinstall XP with the CD the computer came with. Once I reinstalled, the computer rebooted and I had 2 copies of XP to start up with. When I tried to reinstall again and try to get rid of the previous copies I was not able to delete the partition with the OS on it. It would give me an error message that said UNABLE TO DELETE PARTITION DUE TO SYSTEM FILES BEING ON PARTITION.

How many partitions do you have on your hardisk?
Sounds like of course you have 2 copies installed.
Take a windows 98 startup disk with Ramdrive from here

http://www.bootdisk.com/ now for example if the partition you are wanting
to get rid of the second OS from is drive D:

Load up your Windows 98 bootdisk---->REBOOT Let it start with cdrom or
not,for this it won't matter .
Now when you see the blinking cursor type in

Format d:
It will show a warning type in YES
It might take about 20-30-40 maybe an hour depending on what you have on the
separate partiton.
afterwards when it is finished type in a new label name for this
partition, take the disk out of the disk drive and reboot.

Also make sure you have no data of value on this partition cause FORMAT will
destroy everything on this partition to be used again.

Good Luck ,Happy New Year and if you still have problems send me a mail.
