Reinstalling XP from orig CD OEM

Is there a problem trying to reinstall XP from an orig CD
after a year or two of routine on-line auto upgrades?

I have had some non-successful boot problems and many
restarts on occasion after installing a second (slave)
hard drive (120 GB)on my PC- AMD 2000 a couple of weeks
ago. The orig drive(master) is a 60 GB with the Windows
XP Home edition OS on it- constantly updated with auto
Windows Updater. (Master and slave jumpers set OK).
The PC wont boot up successfully anymore and I tried to
reinstall Windows XP from my orig CD. The Win XP repair
utility on the CD didnt help and installing a new XP copy
again would result in a full c: drive formatting losing
all my files according to the WIN XP installation screen.
(I cancelled and quit the reinstallation then).

Have you tried a Repair Install (not the repair option that you mentioned),
which retains your data files and programs, but does lose the Updates, which
you WILL have to install again? For a step by step walk through of a
Windows XP Repair Install, including screenshots, go to:

http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/repair_xp.htm

When the page opens, scroll down and click on: How To Run A Repair
Install.
