Reinstalling XP and retaining data in PArtition Magic 8 Partitions

Hi all,

This is probably a bit of a stupid question, but could anybody tell me
if it is ok to reinstall Win XP on my system, and still retain my data?
I have created a new partition with Partition Magic 8, into which I
have copied all of my data I wish to retain. I want to completely
format the first partition and reinstall windows, but am a little
worried that since the partitions have been created using Partition
Magic, in Windows, that the new installation may not recognise the
second data partition.

Like I said, probably a stupid question, but I have a lot of data I
don't want to lose, and have no access to other media to back it up to,
so I just wanted to check, and double check first!

Thanks for any information.

The installation will probably recognize the partition but when I upgraded to
Win XP Pro - I lost the contents of My Documents and My Pictures. You might
want to burn your data to DVD's or backup to an external (providing XP will
recognize the external after the re-install - see other msgs in this
section). That problem is undoubtedly solvable since my externals were
recognized for a year or so - that is theye were until I upgraded to WinXP
Pro. The cost of an external is cheap compared to trying to recover lost data.

Partition Magic is a solid app as far as that's concerned.

yeh, the windows cd will show you a listing of the partitions and there sizes
so that you can designate where it should be installed. It may advise you
that it wants to format the partition you reformatted. I would allow it.

Keep in mind that if you have an upgrade windows cd, you may encounter
trouble if you cannot provide a former version of windows.

It was a smart choice to move your valuable files into another
partition..... But it would have been possible to "repair" your windows
without loosing anything as well......

Ever think of using the Files and Settings transfer Wizard System tools?
Works like a charm.
