Reinstalling windows xp

R

Rich

Hi - I am having all sorts of anoying little problems such as failing
screen savers, slow printers, missing files when trying to remove
programs, restarting for no reason etc etc. Taken one at a time I
could live with it but the cumulation is causing me grief!! I have
done several system restores and also have to admit to using a couple
of registry clean up tools too.

I think I have reached the stage of having to reinstall windows xp but
need to know 2 things please -

1. Can you give me an indication of how to actually do it (do I need to
format drive etc)? I have the original Novatec "Recovery CD" for XP
Home edition SP2, the Recovery CD-ROM says that "The software included
on this recovery cd rom was preinstalled on my hard drive at the
factory and may only be used for backup and recovery of your Novatech
PC system."

2. Will that clear out all the old registry settings?

Question #2: Yes. The factory Restore CD will return your machine to the
state it was in when you took it out of the box for the first time. This
means all your data and applications will be gone. The computer will have
everything on it that was installed at the factory.

Question #1: Simply Google for "clean install of windows xp" (without the
quotes) and you'll find all kinds of information about how to do a clean
install. Basically, you will need to change your BIOS to boot from the CD
drive first and any other drives after that. Assuming you have a Windows XP
disk. Your Novatec disk may want to be treated otherwise. Consult your
documentation for instructions specific to your machine to proceed
