reinstalling windows xp

I had a problem with my windows xp, it froze and would not
reboot, it said I had a problem with the system file.

I tried to reinstall xp, but it installed another
operating system on my machine, now I have 2 operating
systems on my machine.

I would like to format my drive and start from scratch,
when booting from the cd it does not give me that option.

Can someone please steer me in the right direction so I
can start fresh with a new operating system.
